I have always been fascinated with World War 2, and Normandy in particular. I thought I knew quite a bit about Normandy but you realize how little you know until you go there. Point du Hoc was one of the most impressive places I have yet to see, and less so for the ruins but the story about the ruins and the men who fought there. The story of the Rangers who had to destroy the guns on top of the Point that were attacking the ships on beaches nearby. They had to land, climb with grappling hooks, destory the guns, and keep moving inland. Two hundred and twenty five were tasked with this incredibly difficult and deadly mission and when they were relieved several days later there were only 90 remaining. You have to wonder about the amazing men who trained and fought knowing that many of them would never return.
