I have a ton to write about lately. Working, traveling, eating, it is hard business and makes it difficult to find time to get online these days. It makes me constantly behind on actually writing things up these days. I got to spend a few days in Zermatt for some skiing in mid April, and everyone was worried how the weather would be. Waking up in the morning to hear the booms from the controlled avalanches made me realize that winter had not yet finished in this part of the world. It was amazing to be here in Switzerland enjoying the snow and skiing when back at home the weather had since moved far beyond winter cold and snow. It was early in the morning as we made our way to the gondola and saw this man pulling these horses through the streets. The lack of gas vehicles in town added greatly to the ambiance and enjoyment of this small Swiss town in the valley.

Fantastic! What a lovely getaway, and so nice that there are no gas vehicles.

I LOVE that picture! I spent some time in Switzerland in December – January and our little town of Adelboden looked very similar.

Beautiful picture. Love the look of the town…still hate the snow (sorry..snowed here last night and I’m still a little bitter).

I skied in Zermatt years ago and will always remember the beauty of the town, the wonderful skiing and well before its time – the delicious mountain food – a novelty in those days.
I feel the chill looking at your photo.

You caught the moment perfectly. I can almost feel the chill and hear the hoofbeat.

Zermatt looks like the quintessential Swiss town. Beautiful.
I do hope you get your writing done, but it’ll be challenging here. Enjoy the slopes!

That’s a fabulous photo! I got my first taste of Switzerland in March when we spent a day in Geneva visiting friends. Zermatt is definitely on my list of places that I would like to visit there.

In a way, I wish it was still ski season here in Northern California. We never made it up to the mountains this winter.
Zermatt looks lovely and I like that there are not gas vehicles in the town.

Isn’t Switzerland a scenic wonderland?
I was lucky enough to spend a few days there in 2006, traveling by rail from Salzburg, Austria, to Zurich, and then to Luzerne for a one-night stay, before heading to Interlaken and up to Gimmelwald (across the valley from the Jungfrau and the Eiger, and Rick Steves’ favorite place to stay, more cows than people!).
