Friday Photo: Stari Most — Mostar

The famous old bridge in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina.  Built in the 16th century by the Ottomons it survived for hundreds of years until it was destroyed in the Croat-Bosniak war in 1993.  They said the river bled when the bridge collapsed (the river is said to have turned red due the pink mortar used in the construction).  Thankfully through painstaking work the bridge was reconstructed following the war using historically accurate techniques and materials.
